The Philadelphia Eagles have signed defensive tackle MAURICIO LOPEZ， a native of Mexico City， Mexico， the club announced today.

The 27-year old Lopez spent the past three seasons playing in the NFL Europa League.

In 2007， Lopez recorded nine tackles (six solo) and one sack for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europa.  He had three tackles for Cologne in 2006， and appeared in one game with the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europa in 2005.

Prior to playing in NFL Europa， Lopez played three seasons for the Mexican National Team.  He played collegiately for Monterrey Tech in Monterrey， Mexico where he helped the school win the 2000 and 2003 Borregos Championships.

American football has been played in Mexico for more than 100 years.  A vastly popular present-day program is Gatorade NFL Tochito， a non-contact league for boys and girls that reaches more than 100，000 children ages 8-18 in Mexico City， Monterrey， Guadalajara and Puebla.
